Can you guess where Campus Vista got its name? In the late 1930's a new campus for Phoenix College was opened. the location was outside the city limits where there was little housing. I know this is a bit hard to believe as we look at the area now. Anyway, the result was a need for nearby housing and Campus Vista was the first answer.
Campus Vista is roughly bounded by Thomas, Osborn, 7th Ave and 15th Ave. The average home is 1670 square feet and sits on a .2 acre lot. The subdivision was given its Phoenix historic designation in April of 2003 and its period of significance is 1939-1956.
When you saunter through this neighborhood you'll notice a difference from many other historic neighborhoods... it is mostly composed of ranch style homes verses the eclectic mix of revivals we often see. My friend Artur, a historic buff and fellow realtor, describes Campus Vista as mixed, eclectic, sometimes good, sometimes not but always interesting. I think he described it well.
Being a fan of ranch style homes, I like Campus Vista. My wife, Amy, is from the east so she is a bigger fan of revivals but finds the ranch style great as well. You'll find a mix of landscaping styles here tool. Many of the homes have opted for xeriscaping (desert landscaping) while some hold to vast grassy lawns.
Of note is an 1800+ square foot Haver home built in the mid-1940's. It has been supremely updated and is a treat to have in the neighborhood.
