There are things time does not change. The Brentwood subdivision is one of those. Like today's developers, Brentwood's offered what the public wanted... as much bang for the buck as possible.
The result was a subdivision with smaller and less expensive lots where scaled down versions of classic homes could be built. You'll find a number of revival and ranch style homes in this historic district in the 1100 square foot range. The period of significance for Brentwood is 1926-1956.
Today, Brentwood is often called an up and coming historic district. This is partially due to the fact that it was not designated historic until April, 2003. I believe another reason is it being located very close to the 51 and 10 freeways. In general, historic districts closer to the central corridor have higher demand. That said, Brentwood has some very sweet homes and the price point is generally much lower for someone who wants an historic property.
